On Sunday morning, the weather was perfect for this year’s Operation Trackshoes (a sports festival for people with mental disabilities) at UVic Stadium. This is an all weekend event for participants from the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, who came to have fun and compete for ribbons …. it was a fun time for everyone.

As in other years, members were out in full force with this year’s organizers (Bill, Nino, Wayne & Dave) making things run smoothly….and sure enough things ran without a hitch.

For the past twenty years Rotary Club of Saanich members, partners and friends have run a number of events: 25 meter walk, 100 meter relay race, 25 & 50 meters wheel chair races, and the wheel chair slalom. Duties include: marshalling, starting, judging and award (ribbon) giving.

After the games ended the awards were presented; On behalf of the Club, John made the annual award of the trophy for “Adult Female Sportsmanship”.

Rotarians and friends then gathered at Barb’s Place (no, not the fish and chip joint) for fellowship and food. This year newer Members (Alex, Olga and daughter Aura) organized and ran the traditional post-event Barbeque. Everyone enjoyed the get together, including a sample of the marvelous Rotary chocolate cake.

Finally, Bill Bryant thanked members and friends for making this year’s event a resounding success.
